Growing up in Texas, football and the Super Bowl were simply another member of our family. All three of my brothers played the sport at some point (one through middle school, one through high school and one through college) and my Dad, a collegiate football player himself, still attends the local high school and college games each fall. During my Junior year of high school, I was elected the Spiritual Director and would give the invocation up in the box office over the intercom before the home games. My senior year, I was the Student Body President and would walk across the field at each game to exchange tokens with the opposing team. When my sweet parents became empty-nesters, my mom would turn on ESPN just to have her usual “chaos” and “noise” running throughout the house. Suffice it to say, football is an integrated part in this southerner’s life.
Now, I immensely enjoy the company that football viewing parties bring along with the halftime entertainment (Bruno Mars 2014 is still my favorite one to date). Gathering with family and friends in a casual setting to watch these intense athletes, hilarious advertising and crazy, fun-loving performances is my kind of Sunday. Above, I’ve picked out just a few of the best Super Bowl essentials for you to have on-hand this weekend. From a retro cooler to store drinks, instant-downloadable invites to email out last-minute and a tip-top soundbar to blare that JT, you’ll be well-stocked this Sunday. Relax and enjoy the game!
